Winterreise

a definitive performance
No one can surpass that incomparable baritone Dietrich Fischer-Dieskau when it comes to singing Schubert's Winterreise. We'll miss his unique ability to convey the meaning of lyrics through that beautiful lyrical baritone voice of his!!. The sound quality of this dvd recording was excellent. One felt as if one was right there in the recital hall. Alfred Brendel, an excellent concert pianist in his own right did an excellent job of accompanying/partnering with Fischer-Dieskau!

Winterreise
Dietrich Fischer-Dieskau was, to my ear and to my spirit, the greatest singer of the 20th Century, and Die Winterreise is perhaps the greatest song cycle ever written. Combine the two elements and you have a superb product.
